Fanfiction.net ~ You Disgust Me!

As most of you are aware and unfortunately many more have been effected by the recent purge at Fanfiction.net. This site has become a haven for writers to share their works of love , and FF.Net has betrayed everyone by doing this latest purge. After the mass exodus a few years back, I had hoped never to see authors losing the only copy to their works because they trusted the site to be the place where they would have readers to share in the journey of their stories.Some writers already learned that lesson and went to other sites or their own blog to keep their stories safe. Don’t get caught out and back up EVERYTHING!!
I read this morning on one of the forums that as of June 1st that close to 145,000 stories have been pulled just in the top 20 fandoms alone. This isn’t the case of a few authors that may have broken some rule, this is a case of FF.Net being lazy and removing all mature stories so that the “M” rating can disappear. So as long as your creativity is a PG13, you’ll be safe…

Readers, you can download anything before that time, read completed FF, or even go and check for updates at other sites.
Authors can post any updates after this time and are free to update their stories in any other site.

Authors: Start your Own Blog

You can create your own blog or website to share your stories. Whether it’s LiveJournal, Blogger or Wordpress; your fans will follow you. It also gives you a chance to post your banners and make a good home for your works. Plus you can have more interaction with your fans. If you have never created a blog, there are many of us that are happy to help you out. So don’t be shy, we are a community.
Once you’re created your site, be sure to put your details on the SVM/TB Directory so that everyone can find you:

Fanfiction.Net is not the only place to go. In addition to creating your own blog site where you know your works will be safe, there are alternatives. One of my favourites is Archive of Our Own. As I have said many times over the years, I would love for everyone in our fandom to go to AO3.

If you want a safe place to share your stories, please make sure to get your account at Archive of our Own (AO3). I have loved this site for the last three years. Even though it has been in Beta for what seems like forever, it is a site made by fans and wants to be a true haven for Fan-based works. If you haven’t visited it in a while, you will see how many fabulous features they have for both authors and readers. Plus it is improving all the time, and they love to hear your input on how to make it better.
You can easily copy all your works from FF.Net with just the link of your first page of a story and it will upload the rest!! Our SVM/TB Fandom has not made much of a dent compared to other fandoms on there and that’s a shame. It gives you so many freedoms as writer and so many benefits as a reader.
