Happy New Year Readers, I hope 2012 is going well for all of you. For the last few years I have enjoyed promoting and recommending fanfics to anyone that wants to reads it on my Fairyblood’s Fantasy sites. This fandom has been a home to me for the last few years and I love it here. This time last year I was just getting started in the massive project of creating the Fangreaders SVM/TB fanfic reading group. I am very thankful to all those that have been supportive of the group and have made it such a fabulous place to be to share our obsession. Since then I have met some of the most wonderful fanfic addicts in our fandom, made such great friends, and have had the opportunity to read so many incredible fanfics and meet their authors. I would also like to thank all my followers that have been so supportive and very patient when I have failed to update regularly. New years resolution~ More great recommendations for 2012.
Askars Watch
Since my last posting, I have had the chance to watch Straw Dogs and Melancholia. Both show the diversity and talent of Askars, but on their own I am not a fan of either. Straw Dogs was not story I originally liked the first time around and it is no different in the remake. However, it is a well made film with some brilliant acting including Askars though there are some very disturbing scenes and is very difficult to watch. Melancholia on the other hand is a film that was made solely because of Lars von Trier. Being a lover of all disaster films, I don’t think I have ever rooted for the destruction of planet Earth like I did during this film in order to put us all out of our misery. With such a line of fabulous actors, it was such a disappointment to have them stuck in such wooden characters forced to read such an awful script. Having been a SAG member, I am disappointed when I see a film being made solely on a name rather than on the merit of the movie. Visually it is beautiful, but that is all I can really say about it. I mean really… like any woman would dump Askars on his wedding day HA!!!! As soon as he said “I do”, he’d be in that honeymoon suite naked quicker than Vamp Speed!

Thanks to Musings by Char, I have found out about a site to help out us ereaders that are sometimes without wifi. It’s called Story Masters and is a godsend for those of us that usually end up copying and pasting fics so I can carry around my stories in my Blackberry or ereader. 
Can be used with stories from ff.net, the Writer’s Coffee Shop, Adult Fanfiction , and more. Just add the url and the format you want (pdf, epub, mobi , etc) then add your email. You will then receive the fic in your chosen format in your inbox. Sometimes this can happen in just a couple of minutes, but be aware there are times when it gets overloaded and may take longer.
I would like to say that I completely understand the feelings from some of the authors out there that are completely against this site saying that it would help promote plagiarism. My personal view is that since the birth of the internet this debate has been an on-going fight to prevent the unlawful use of someone else’s work. I would like to make it very clear that I do not condone any plagiarism nor any promotion of it. In the last few years, the publishing houses out there have debated this very topic. With the birth of the portable ereader, publishers did extensive research to weigh out the risks of plagiarism and pirating. Seeing that the gain of readers outweighed the risks, authors works were made available in multiple digital formats. The plus side to having works published in digital format is that it is now easier to track down plagiarised works by having it scanned for the amount of exact words. The biggest advantage of having works in digital format is the increase in readers. In fanfic, this should be something that all authors should think about in increasing their reading audiences. The fanfiction site Archive of Our Own is already ahead of the game in this debate by providing all its readers different formats for each fanfic on their site and Story Master is no different to that same service. We all need to be vigilant against those that would steal someone else’s work, but why should those that have no ill will be kept from having some perks.
